In a nutshell: This systematic review looked at risk factors for falls in nursing home residents and hospital inpatients. A range of factors were found, including mobility, sensory, medical factors and medication. Women were found to have a slightly decreased risk, but falls have a multifactorial aetiology. The history of falls, use of walking aids and disability are strong predictors of future falls.
